How do you make a great car better? Go greener. As if the BMW X6 weren’t sexy enough, they’re making it greener than ever with the addition of BMW’s hybrid petrol-electric technology. But the big question is, “How do you make a car greener without sacrificing performance?” Well, in most cases this would be a valid argument. After all, most hybrid vehicles on the road today are meant specifically for the objective of increasing mph rather than being able to make tight turns and accelerate to top speeds. But what would a BMW be without its impeccable handling and acceleration? Just another car. And if you’re in the market for “just another car,” mosey on over to another car blog because BMW isn’t “just another car.” This is the ultimate driving experience.
So what’s the deal with the new Chicago BMW X6? The ActiveHybrid X6 will still be powered by the same twin-turbocharged V8 as the X6 xDrive50i, with the addition of two 67 KW electric assistance motors. This means that the X6 will be able to coast almost 2 miles at a time on complete electric power making congested city streets an easy ride (even if the traffic is anything but.)
But won’t the hybrid engine sacrifice power? After all, I’ve test driven the X6 numerous times at my Chicago Dealer in BMW and, believe me, power is not one thing you’d want to sacrifice in this beast. Luckily, the overall power from the twin-turbocharged V8 (remember?!) is enough to propel this bad-boy 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. Oh, and it can also kick it up to 150 mph without even breaking a sweat.
For now, there are no plans on release date for a Chicago BMW X6 Hybrid, but with the increasing need for fuel-efficient vehicles, BMW is continuing to push the envelope of greener BMW vehicles. So keep checking in with your BMW Dealer in Chicago for the latest news, because you’ll definitely want to be the first to know when this ultimate driving machine is ready to test drive.
