I talk a lot when I’m in the driver’s seat – when I’m alone nonetheless.  I’m always giving commands to other cars on the road. “Come on, let me in.” “Speed up.” “Move!”  Admittedly, those rogue machines rarely pay attention to my direction.  When I was younger and owned an ’84 Chevy I gave commands to my own car: “Start! Just this once and I’ll never ask for anymore from you ever again you stupid…”

Well, I’m not sure if BMW intends to give heed to commands like those, and I doubt the company is looking to implement a system that allows you to magically alter the movements of other automobiles. However, BMW is bringing voice command technology to its lineup this fall, and it promises to be another great luxury in cars already stacked with amenities.

The system, which should arrive in BMWs at Chicago BMW dealers in a couple of months, lets drivers utilize voice commands to interact with systems such as navigation and audio. If there are two things I’m messing with in my car more that the navigation system and the radio controls, I don’t know what it could be. This technology is for me.

With the voice system, drivers will need only to say the name or address of a destination and let the car do the rest. Magic! With the music controls, drivers will be able to say the name of an artist or song title, and the car serenades them with the chosen selection.

The new voice commander will be available in eight countries, including the U.S., and will be featured at Chicago BMW dealer Patrick BMW.The voice command technology will work as part of BMW’s iDrive system, which has been reintroduced in the current model year as a much-improved control center for the luxury a BMW deserves.

If you’re like me and constantly give commands while driving anyway, take a look at a BMW with the voice command technology at a BMW dealer in Chicago. After all, when you talk in an empty car with voice controls, it’s less insane.
